West Ham United vs Liverpool match ratings: Robertson and Díaz shine but defensive frailties persist
Here's how Jürgen Klopp's side rated in their 2-2 draw at the London Stadium
Liverpool ensured a bad week ended with another underwhelming result as they drew 2-2 with West Ham United the London Stadium.
The Reds trailed at half-time to Jarrod Bowen’s header, but produced a good second-half comeback as Andy Robertson levelled before Cody Gakpo’s shot deflected into the net, with the final touch coming off Tomáš Souček.
Michail Antonio, though, was left unmarked to head in a leveller, 12 minutes from time, as Jürgen Klopp’s side were again undone by defensive frailties.
Liverpool bossed much of the first half but were undone two minutes before the break as a short corner from the left ended with Bowen planting a firm header into the far corner.
The Reds levelled early in the second half as Robertson squeezed home a low effort from Luis Díaz’s pass, and they went ahead on 65 minutes as Gakpo’s mis-hit shot deflected into the net off a combination of Angelo Ogbonna, Alphonse Areola and eventually Souček on the goalline.
Liverpool had chances to extend their lead, but failed to take them and were punished as Antonio was afforded a free header from Bowen’s cross to equalise.
Harvey Elliott rattled the crossbar late on for the visitors, but they have now dropped 10 points in their last five league matches, seeing their title chances evaporate as a result.
The draw keeps Liverpool two points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal having played a game more. The Gunners face North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, while Manchester City, who have two games in hand on the Reds, are at Nottingham Forest.
