Liverpool v Sheffield United match ratings: Mac Allister drags the Reds to a vital victory
Here's how Jürgen Klopp's side rated in their nervy 3-1 win at Anfield...
Done the hard way, but done nonetheless.
Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League courtesy of a 3-1 win over Sheffield United that was far nervier than anyone inside Anfield had anticipated prior to kick off.
A stunner from Alexis Mac Allister, 13 minutes from time, proved decisive, with substitute Cody Gakpo adding the finishing touches to a vital victory late on.
Things had looked to be heading south when Conor Bradley deflected Gustavo Hamer’s header past Caoimhin Kelleher to give the relegation-threatened Blades an equaliser early in the second half. Darwin Núñez had given the Reds the lead with his 18th goal of the season.
The win lifts Liverpool above Arsenal and three points clear of Manchester City, with Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford to come.
