Two down, how many more to come for Liverpool?
I know you’ve all been worrying, but is it fair to say this is turning into a pretty exciting summer transfer window for the Reds?
The start of June brought Alexis Mac Allister, and the start of July brought Dominik Szoboszlai. That’s two creative, versatile, technically-accomplished midfielders with burgeoning reputations and room to grow, both done and dusted before the first day of pre-season training, and both signed for a little under £100 million.
Szoboszlai’s signing, confirmed on Sunday, may have come as something of a surprise - there was no real inkling of a deal this time last week - but that’s the beauty of the transfer window, I guess. We’d all love to know more than we do, but the arrival of a good footballer to your club is never a bad thing.
The Hungarian certainly struck the right tone in his first interview with liverpoolfc.com. He revealed his admiration for Jürgen Klopp and Steven Gerrard, whose old No.8 shirt he will wear, spoke of his desire to be a team player despite his individual gifts, and offered a pledge to his new supporters.
“Since I am a professional, I have won something every year,” Szoboszlai smiled. “I want to continue that.”
The question now, of course, is who’s next for Liverpool? Surely, their summer business is not done yet…
