Liverpool transfer round-up: Henderson's Saudi Arabia links, Lavia progress slows, youngster leaves
Could the Reds' captain be about to join Anfield legend Steven Gerrard over in the Middle East?
Good morning and welcome to another Monday round-up from Covering Liverpool, as I run through the stories which matter concerning the Reds.
To start with, how good was it to see (some of) the chaps back at the AXA on Saturday? Jürgen Klopp was all smiles as he rocked up for the first day of pre-season, but then he again he would be, I suppose. He didn’t have to do any running!
Darwin Núñez, Joël Matip, Joe Gomez and Fabinho, alas, weren’t so fortunate. They were the senior players who seemed to do that most on day one, although Nat Phillips, Adrián and Stefan Bajčetić were also present, as was Calvin Ramsay, who will spend the season on loan at Preston North End.
Also there was Thiago Alcântara, although in rather typical fashion the Spaniard set tongues wagging. He was pictured only in jeans and jumper - a crime, when there’s a lovely, brand-new training range just waiting for him - and did not appear to take part in any kind of training, inside or outside.
Given the recent interest in the 32-year-old, plus the fact he is supposed to be fully fit after hip surgery, that has to be at least a minor concern. Turkish interest in Thiago is certainly there, and there are also Saudi Arabian clubs keen on signing the former Bayern Munich man.
Which brings us neatly onto another Liverpool midfielder, Jordan Henderson.
